18-Yr-Old Coco Gauff Become Youngest Grand Slam Finalist after Defeating Martina

Coco Gauff, an 18-year-old American tennis player, advanced to her first Grand Slam final after beating Martina Trevisan of Italy in the women‘s singles semi-final at Roland Garros during the French Open. After reaching the Grand Slam final Gauff become the youngest Grand Slam finalist since Maria Sharapova who won Wimbledon in 2004.

In her first major semi-final, Gauff, 18, defeated unseeded Italian Martina Trevisan 6-3, 6-1 on the Paris clay. Gauff earned her first WTA singles victory three months after Wimbledon and finished the year among the top 100 players in the world. She spoke on learning how to handle expectations and how to enjoy life was enabling her to achieve her goals on the court after her quarter-final wins at Roland Garros on Wednesday. Gauff’s carefree attitude was evident as she sealed the match against Trevisan with a nerveless hold to love in the last game.

Right now, I believe I’m in a state of shock. After the contest, I was at a loss for words. I don’t know what to say, Gauff stated after the game. I wasn’t nervous going in today; in fact, I haven’t been nervous all week. In the morning, I go for a walk to clear my thoughts, and I feel fantastic afterward, she stated.

Furthermore, Coco Gauff will face Iga Swiatek in the Grand Slam final. Iga Natalia Swiatek, a Polish tennis player, is presently ranked No. 1 in the world by the Women’s Tennis Association and is the youngest player in the top 10. Swiatek won the 2020 French Open and became the first Pole to claim a Grand Slam singles championship.
