Manorama Joshi, 17, hard work has paid off as she became the recipient of 8 record-breaking scholarships from six different schools. Manorama is a grade 12 student at Westwood Community High School as she sets a record-breaking achievement. She has been offered eight scholarships totaling $575,000 from six different schools.
The Schulich Leadership Scholarship for Engineering was offered to Manorama by the University of Alberta, the University of Calgary, and the University of British Columbia. It is one of Canada’s most desired prizes, awarded to 100 students across the country. She was also offered a $30,000 leadership scholarship at the University of Alberta, two $88,000 McGill admission scholarships, $50,000 at Western University, and $19,000 at McMaster University.
Manorama is quite active in the school’s extracurricular activities. She is a member of the Principal’s Advisory Council, the Breakfast Club of Canada, the Medical Leadership Club, and the Senior Girls’ Volleyball team at Westwood, as well as being the co-founder and Vice President of the school’s Women in Technology club.
She is an active community member in addition to all of her extracurricular activities at school. The Financial Director for Youth Computing, a student-led organization linking students with technology, is a member of the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council and the United Way Community Investment Team.
Manorama, who is now competing in the virtual Canada Wide Science Fair, intends to study Computer Engineering at UBC and earn a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Engineering. Receiving the Schulich Leadership Scholarship allows me to develop and concentrate on the university. “I am thrilled to promote Westwood and the region, and I am proud of how far I have come,” Manorama says.
