Jet Airways Intends to Make a Come Back with all Female Crew

Jet Airways has stated that it will commence operations with all-female cabin crew members in its start-up phase, as part of its goal to resume full-fledged services soon. The airline also claimed that once it achieves a particular operating scale, it will recruit male cabin staff members. It will follow the lead of Vistara, which began recruiting male cabin staff in March 2018, around three years after the airline was founded.

After successfully completing its testing flights, the airline will acquire its air operator certificate (AOC). The representative of the company disclosed that while it exclusively has women in its cabin crew in the current beginning phase, it will be hiring members as cabin crew as well after it achieves a certain operating scale.

Furthermore, according to the representative, Jet Airways has always had a gender-neutral hiring policy and would continue to do so. The airline formerly proudly performed with a mixed cabin crew, and it plans to restart that practice and hire a male cabin crew after certain goals are met. It’s worth noting that it’ll be one of India’s few airlines to hire male staff, as it believes it’s the correct thing to do.

The initial women-only crew is intended to streamline and optimize rostering, training, and layover (evening stay) costs and crew ratios while the company is still small, and its crew requirements are restricted. It also reflects the majority of the cabin crew application pool, which is female. IndiGo, India’s largest airline, employs exclusively female cabin personnel. Male cabin crew personnel are hired by full-service carriers Vistara and Air India. Male cabin crew workers are also employed by SpiceJet, Go First, and AirAsia India.

Additionally, the company’s representative said that on April 4, aviation veteran Sanjiv Kapoor took over as the airline’s CEO. The company has a small handful of NCR-based cabin crew, trained and qualified on the Boeing 737 aircraft, on its rolls to run its testing flights that should take place soon. Several of them had previously worked for Jet Airways.
