The Saudi Arabian Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has issued instructions for women who wish to perform Umrah without the presence of a male guardian. According to the government, women who plan to travel without Mehram (male guardian) can acquire an Umrah visa, but they must be at least 45 years old.
In Islam, a mahram is a person who is qualified to accompany a woman from her family to Umrah. Islamic law forbids Umrah without the presence of a mahram. Saudi Arabia prohibits women from entering the premises unless they are accompanied by a male. They will not be granted an Umrah visa unless they have a mahram, according to Saudi regulations. But women over 45 will be able to enjoy some relaxation thanks to recent revisions in the law.
Previously, Saudi Arabia has declared that women can register for the Hajj Pilgrimage without the presence of a male guardian (mahram). The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah stated in its registration requirements for Hajj for domestic pilgrims that women did not need a male guardian to register and may do so with other women.
Furthermore, Saudi authorities have relaxed the limitation on a PCR test and authorized a list of eight vaccines for people traveling for Umrah, according to the new travel instructions. Pfizer, Sinopharm, Sinovac, AstraZeneca, Moderna, Johnson and Johnson, CanSino, and Sputnik were among the vaccines authorized by the Kingdom.
