Meta Announces Special Initiatives for Online Safety of Women in Pakistan

Date:

Meta Platforms, Inc., the parent organization of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and other subsidiaries has launched special initiatives for the online safety of women in Pakistan. The two initiatives of Meta in Pakistan include the Online Safety Guide and StopNCII (non-consensual intimate images).

Meta has rules and processes in place to combat online violence against women, as well as awareness campaigns to help women protect themselves from unethical online forces. As Pakistan’s internet connectivity has grown, so has the number of cases of online harassment and violence, notably directed at women and gender minorities.

Online Safety Guide Initiative

To counter these issues, Meta has launched two initiatives. The safety advice was released in English and Urdu with the hopes of increasing digital literacy and ethical online behavior among users. It leads to a safe online place for women to communicate and express themselves without fear of being judged.

The safety guide, which is currently available at Meta’s Safety Centre, is part of the company’s endeavor to better equip and prepare users for the difficulties of today’s digital environment. In Pakistan, millions of people use Meta platforms to communicate and pursue common interests. However, staying informed about concerns such as online harassment, unsolicited messages, and a variety of deceptive and illicit behavior in the online environment is always a good idea.

The safety guide lists all of the safety options accessible on Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, as well as how women may utilize them to stay safe online and avoid criminal and fraudulent activity.

StopNCII Initiative

To combat the spreading of non-consensual intimate photographs (NCII), often known as Revenge Porn, StopNCII was established with Meta’s expert help and funding in partnership with a global NGO partner, the UK Revenge Porn Helpline. StopNCII.org is a global organization that now serves people through regional partners who campaign for victims in their own communities. It employs cutting-edge technology to prevent compromising images and videos from circulating online.

StopNCII has also been translated into Urdu, and individuals concerned about their online safety and privacy can utilize it to file a complaint. Meta can proactively restrict the spread of compromising photographs and videos before they proliferate online once the case is opened.
