In Pakistan’s complicated socio-demographic and cultural setting, women’s empowerment has long been a contentious topic. On every important human development metric, women are ranked lower than men. But now Pakistan has increased its effort to promote women’s empowerment in the country.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police of KPK province of Pakistan has appointed Ayesha Gul as the first Assistant Inspector General (AIG). She is the first woman ever in the history of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police who has been appointed as AIG. Ayesha is a resident of Swabi and currently stationed in Peshawar, has assumed command of her new position.

Ayesha, who was employed in the Islamabad Traffic Police at the time, had been recognized for her efforts earlier in January. She was also appointed to the rank of the police superintendent.

Previously, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police has established a new department to guarantee that women in the province enjoy equal representation.
