Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Appoints First Woman Assistant Inspector General First Time Ever

In Pakistan’s complicated socio-demographic and cultural setting, women’s empowerment has long been a contentious topic. On every important human development metric, women are ranked lower than men. But now Pakistan has increased its effort to promote women’s empowerment in the country.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police of KPK province of Pakistan has appointed Ayesha Gul as the first Assistant Inspector General (AIG). She is the first woman ever in the history of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police who has been appointed as AIG. Ayesha is a resident of Swabi and currently stationed in Peshawar, has assumed command of her new position.

She stated that as AIG Gender Equality, she will seek to protect women‘s, transgender people’s, and children’s rights. Ayesha, who was employed in the Islamabad Traffic Police at the time, had been recognized for her efforts earlier in January. She was also appointed to the rank of the police superintendent.

Previously, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police has established a new department to guarantee that women in the province enjoy equal representation. Furthermore, earlier, Ayesha has been appointed as the first Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Gender Equality. Inspector-General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Moazzam Jah Ansari earlier stated that “this is the first time such a position has been created for a lady police officer.”
