Winsome Sears to Become Virginia’s First Female to Take Lieutenant Governor Post

Date:

Jamaica-born Republican Winsome Sears has made history as she is going to be the first female to take the lieutenant governor position and is the first woman of color to secure statewide office in Virginia. In Tuesday’s election, she has secured victory against Democrat Hala Ayala.

Winsome’s victory has completely changed the history of the state as she will take the position held by men for more than 200 years. She has got the greatest accomplishment of her life. Sears is a former Marine who settled in the US from Jamaica as a girl and leaped to victory in a crowded primary on the excitement caused by a campaign photo of her modeling with a military rifle.

Furthermore, Winsome had a short task in electoral politics 20 years ago as a one-term representative in the General Assembly, on behalf of parts of Hampton Roads. After a two-decade break, she return to politics when she acted as national chairperson for Black Americans to Re-Elect President Trump.

Additionally, Sears will take Democrat Justin Fairfax’s position, who unsuccessfully contested for governor. Sears secured the appointment by throwing five other candidates, including two former Del. Tim Hugo from Fairfax County and Virginia Beach Del. Glenn Davis who were far more involved in recent GOP politics.

Moreover, when she acted in the legislature, she secured top ratings from anti-abortion and gun-rights organizations. She hyped that record in her successful primary campaign but changed her website during the general election to eliminate those references. On the other hand, Ayala competed for Virginia’s 51st House District in Prince William County in 2017 and ousted Rich Anderson, a four-term compelling Republican. She became one of the first two Hispanic women chosen in the House.
