Polish Javelin Thrower Decides to Auction off Tokyo Olympics Medal to Fund Infant Heart Surgery

Polish Javelin Thrower Maria Andrejczyk has set a new example of helping humanity when she has decided to auction off her silver medal which she secured in Tokyo Olympics 2020 to fund the urgent heart surgery of an eight-month-old baby. Her action proved that nothing is important than humanity.

The 25-year-old thrower completed first in succeeding for the final at the Summer Games, but she was defeated by China’s Liu Shiying. She took to Facebook and disclosed that she is going to sell her silver medal to fund the surgery of an infant. She informed her fans that bidding will start under her post on Facebook.

Her decision to sell her silver medal which she earned after a lot of effort encouraged other people to help others when they are in need. In her post on Facebook, she wrote: “I didn’t spend long thinking about this, it was the first fundraiser I came across and I knew it was the right one.”

Furthermore, the infant’s mother disclosed that currently there are no other feasible options to assist the infant in their home country, Poland. Their last hope being an operation in Stanford, California. Andrejczyk disclosed that Małysa required 1.5 million zloty ($383,000) for an urgent surgery. With half the money already collected, she said she planned to fundraise the other half.

After beginning the auction off at 200,000 zloty ($51,000), she revealed that Żabka, a Polish supermarket chain, earned the medal with a bid of $125,000. She wrote: “It’s with the greatest pleasure that I give to you, Żabka, my medal which for me is a symbol of struggle, faith and the pursuit of dreams despite the many challenges.”

Moreover, after securing the medal, Żabka declared that they will be sending the medal to Andrejczyk. Żabka took to Facebook and wrote: “We were moved by the beautiful and extremely noble gesture of our Olympian girl, so we decided to support the collection of funds. We also decided that the silver medal from Tokyo will stay with Ms. Maria, who showed how Great the Champion was.”
