New York just welcomes its first female governor as Kathy Hochul was sworn in for the Governor’s office. Kathy has taken the position of Andrew Cuomo who has left his position because of his multiple scandals. Multiple reports disclosed that Cuomo has been found guilty of sexually harassing 11 women.
The moderate Democrat from the Buffalo area has taken oath as the 57th governor of New York by the state’s chief judge, Janet DiFiore, during a private ceremony. 62-year-old Democrat had earlier served as a lieutenant governor. Hochul disclosed that she has decided to allow those who have been appointed by Cuomo to retain their position for 45 days so she can interview new applicants. But she says no one who has acted improperly will be on her staff.
Furthermore, her term will continue till the end of 2022, but she has decided to run for a full term as governor next year in what will probably be a busy Democratic primary. When she has taken the oath, she has appointed two women along her sides. Two women include Karen Persichilli Keogh as secretary to the governor and Elizabeth Fine as counsel to the governor.
Additionally, as she has taken the oath, she now has to deal with the increasing COVID-19 cases, an uncertain economy, and getting federal aid to residents and landlords. Moreover, as Cuomo has resigned because of the unethical issues she now has to engage in ethical standards in Albany and private workplaces across the state. Though her time in Congress was brief, Hochul is an experienced state and local candidate with deep roots in more conservative Western New York.
