American Singer Selena Gomez has slammed “The Good Fight” for a tasteless kidney transplant joke. The latest joke related to her Kidney Transplant emerged in the latest episode of the Paramount+ legal drama. In the drama’s episode characters talked about the effects of cancel culture on comedy and which topics can and cannot be debated.
In the episode, Jay Dipersia role played by Nyambi Nyambi asked Marissa Gold played by Sarah Steele and Jim played by Ifadansi Rashad “is there anything we can’t do”, to which they specified necrophilia, autism, and Selena Gomez’s kidney transplant. She experienced an operation in 2017 after suffering complications from the autoimmune disease lupus.
The joke in the drama badly hit the actress’s sentiments and she termed the joke “Tasteless”. She took to Twitter and wrote: “I am not sure how writing jokes about organ transplants for television shows have become a thing but sadly it has appeared. I hope in the next writer’s room when one of these tasteless jokes are presented it’s called out immediately and doesn’t make it on air.”
When Selena pointed out the “Tasteless Joke” her fans came in her defense. In another Tweet, she wrote: “My fans always have my back. LOVE YOU.” She also shared the link with her fans of organ donation.
The Good Fight in a talk to the Hollywood Reporter disclosed: “If you watch the episode in full, the reference to Gomez is part of a discussion the characters are having about topics that are not ok to make fun of and the idea of cancel culture and being canceled for telling a bad joke.”
