Lydia Jacoby Break All Records by Winning Gold Medal in 100m Breaststroke at Tokyo Olympics

17-year-old Lydia Jacoby, an American competitive swimmer has made her country proud by winning a gold medal in 100 breaststroke at Tokyo Olympics. She became the first woman who has won the gold medal in swimming in these Olympics.  Jacoby who is just 17 has defeated the opponent Lilly King in 100m breaststroke. 

This victory is a remarkable victory for Lydia in her swimming career. Lydia who is Alaska’s first Olympic swimmer is also its first Olympic champion.  Three-and-a-half years ago Jacoby was acting shoeless on stage at the Anchorage Folk Festival, singing and strumming a double bass. She also intends to study fashion design at the University of Texas.

Furthermore, Lydia is the first Olympic swimmer and only the 10th Summer Olympian to be born in Alaska. She broke numerous high school state records. King has got bronze medal position with a time of 1:05.54. South Africa’s Tatjana Schoenmaker got silver, completing in 1:05.22. But Jacoby won gold with a time of 1:04.95, increasing her chances for the gold medal by removing all competitors from the water.

Additionally, King, who is performing in her second Olympics, also disclosed she was delighted to play a role as a mentor to Jacoby. She is happy to have a teammate like Lydia.  Lilly stated that she is surprised to see how the competition turned out. She disclosed: “I’m excited to see the future of American breaststroke and to have someone to go head-to-head with. I definitely knew she was a threat. I saw a lot of myself in her and I knew something special would happen.”
