Saudi Arabia has allowed women to register for the annual Hajj pilgrimage without their male counterparts. Saudi Arabia has issued registration guidelines for this year’s Hajj for domestic pilgrims. The Saudi Ministry of Haj and Umrah disclosed that women did not require to have a male guardian to sign up for Hajj. KSA has allowed women to register along with other women.
Ministry of Hajj and Umrah disclosed through Twitter: “Those wishing to perform Hajj will need to sign up independently. Women will be able to register without a mahram (male guardian) along with other women.” KSA has made legal amendment which has allowed women to live their lives and perform their daily chores without the consent of their male counterpart. This is the greatest development in the history of KSA to empower women.
The registration for the Hajj was started on 13th June 2021 and will end on June 23, 2021. Pilgrims are allowed to sort and complete registration starting from 25th June 2021. It has been disclosed that sorting is being conducted based on the health and supervisory standards. Priority will be given to those Pilgrims who have never performed Hajj before. Moreover, it would be necessary to buy and pay for the package within 3 hours after selecting the package.
Furthermore, the historic moves remove the guardianship system that makes adult women legal minors and lets their “guardians” which include husband, father, and other male relatives to practice a random power over them. Earlier, in 2019, KSA has also allowed women to travel abroad without getting permission from their male counterparts.
This year Saudi Arabia has allowed the limited pilgrims to perform Hajj. Saudi Arabia disclosed on Saturday it would permit 60,000 locals vaccinated against COVID-19 to carry out this year’s Hajj, but Muslims from abroad would be prohibited from performing Hajj for a second consecutive year.
