Merck’s New CEO Belen Garijo Become First Women to Head a Firm Alone

Belén Garijo has made history as she became the first woman who is single-handedly run a DAX 30-listed firm. Currently, the world is facing serious issues of gender discrimination but between this debate, Belen has secured a new position of CEO in her company.

60-years-old CEO disclosed that she will strive to do more so that she will not be the last woman to secure the position. Earlier, Garijo worked as the deputy CEO of the firm and head of its healthcare unit.

Belen s currently endeavoring to focus on the frontline role of Merck in the fight against COVID-19. To do this Garijo disclosed that the firm will increase deliveries in the months ahead of the lipids used in vaccine production for clients such as Pfizer-BioNTech.

She is a mother of two and a passionate Real Madrid supporter. Garijo has achieved the position of CEO but this position will bring new challenge for her because as the first sole female CEO of a DAX firm will bring extra pressure and scrutiny.

Moreover, she also believed that her success will be measured against whether women are appropriate for the job of being CEOs or not. She disclosed that she is not in favor of any kind of discrimination even the positive discrimination.
