Samia Hassan Ready to Sworn in as the First Female President of Tanzania

Samia Suluhu Hassan is ready to take her position as the first woman president of Tanzania. Samia will take oath as the president of the nation at 10 am today. She had disclosed on Wednesday that President John Magufuli had passed away.

According to the constitution of Tanzania, the vice president has the right to take the control of the state after the president. Samia was first chosen as the racing partner of John Magufuli in 2015 and last year she was re-elected with him. After the demise of the leader, she will serve as the president of the country for the next five years.

After taking her position she will make history as the first woman president and the first woman leader of the East African state since its freedom from Britain in late 1961. The state house of Tanzania disclosed the after taking oath as the leader she will speak with the nation through the media.

Samia has first entered active politics in 2000 when she was chosen to the Zanzibar House of Representatives taking a special seat. After that, she had been chosen as a member of the cabinet of Zanzibar President Abeid Amani Karume. Five years later she was named to the same seat.

In 2014, she was named as the Minister for State Union Affairs by Tanzania President Jakaya Kikwete. In the 2015 election, the late John Pombe Magufuli who had passed away due to heart problems choose her as his running mate. At that time she was the first female running mate in the dominant party’s history. In this way, she reached the position of president and became the first woman leader of the state.
