Leigha Brown has made up for her lost time in NCAA women‘s tournament as she led her team Michigan Wolverines towards victory against the Florida Gulf Coast. She earned 28 points 19 in the third quarter alone succeeded by a 21-7 run in the fourth quarter.
In the middle of the season, she missed more than a month because of coronavirus. But after recovering from coronavirus she defeated Florida Gulf Coast in the first round of the NCAA women’s tournament on Sunday in San Antonio.
After she missed 35 days she said that after taking a long break there’s going to be some rust. But she credited her teammates and coaches in building confidence in her. Michigan (15-5) is scheduled to play Tennessee in the second round on Tuesday. It’s the third straight NCAAs that the Wolverines have reached the second round.
Before the tournament, the head coach Kim Barnes Arico presented a video about handling stress during competition. After returning for the tournament Brown disclosed that she only hit the shot with the confidence of her teammates.
In the BigTen Quarterfinal when Michigan lost to Northwestern she had 10 days to prepare for the game. Barnes Arico disclosed that the extra time was helpful for Brown.
