Activist And Journalist Malalai Maiwand Shot Dead In Afghanistan

An event of violence is increasing in Afghanistan against journalists as a woman journalist who was also an activist of rights got killed on Thursday.

Malalai Maiwand was a Radio and TV reporter in Nangarhar. She got killed along with her driver in Jalalabad. 10 journalists and media workers killed this year in the country.

Provincial Governor Attaullah said that she was on her way to her office when the murder happened. No group of attackers yet admitted responsibility for the murder even though the area is the main center of militant activity.

Interior minister Tariq Arain stated that in the last one and a half-decade many journalists became victims of the Taliban. Taliban representative Zabihullah denied any connection of the group relating to this murder.

The Enikas radio has been a target of ransom as its owner Engineer Zalmay was kidnaped before in 2018. The journalist’s mother was also got murdered five years back who was also an activist.

Nai which is an organization that works for media support said that with the murder of Malalai the women journalists will not be able to continue their jobs like they are doing before.

Elyas Dayee who was a Radio Azadi journalist was killed by a bomb blast back in the province of Southern Helmand and previous TOLO news representative Yama was also killed in the same blast in Kabul.

The event of killing journalists is condemned by the Government of Afghanistan, the German embassy, and the British ambassador along with the EU delegation.

If the foreign army came back from the country and the Taliban again came to power there will be a reverse gear to women’s progress which has happened in the last two years as this concern is shown by International governments and donors of the country.

The Taliban laws have always been to oppress women which was one of the causes of the American invasion of the country. Provincial Governor Attaullah said that she was in way of her office when the murder happened.

No group of attackers yet announce the murder even though this area is the main of militant activity and noticeably including the Islamic state.
