Spotify Reveals List of 2020’s Most Trending Artists

A recent announcement by Spotify, America’s go-to music app issued a list of its top trending artists showcasing what kind of music was preferred and podcasts heard by listeners in an unforgettable and turbulent 2020.

The Michelle Obama Podcast” was the site’s 4th most liked podcast but “The Joe Rogan Experience” was heard most by the masses and managed to steal the spotlight by climbing to the top of the list.

Spotify told the media, “Despite its unique challenges, 2020 inspired creativity with so many people finding ways to come together with resiliency as a community. The year has also sounded differently and throughout it all, audio has acted as a companion, strengthening our connections with the world around us and giving us hope.”

Pop phenomenon Billie Ellish was Spotify’s second most streamed singer and did so for the second time in a row. She did not come up with any new album but multiple of her singles helped her reach the top position. Other female vocalists who became a part of the top 5 most streamed women include worldwide famous names like Halsey, Dua Lipa, Ariana Grande, and Taylor Swift. 

Bad Bunny who released his album “YHLQMDLG” in the month of February became the first album consisting only of Spanish songs to place first on Billboard’s charts with a total of 8.3B streams. Some of the others mentioned involve Drake, Balvin, and The Weeknd.    

 “Blinding Lights” by the Weeknd was heard approximately 1.6B times and stayed on Billboards’ Hot 100 songs for a record of 40 weeks. It is the longest-running single in history to have charted Billboard’s Top 10.   

The digital music service provider reported a 180% increase in health and wellness podcasts. On the other hand, because of a global lockdown, a 1400% increase in work-from-home themed playlists was observed along with an estimated 55% increase in listeners using gaming consoles for streaming purposes.
