Lahore Capital City Police Officer Umar Sheikh has blamed the victim of the motorway gang-rape incident for choosing the wrong route.
After his insensitive remarks, people started criticizing him. People took to Twitter and demanded the removal of CCPO Umar Sheikh.
A woman who was with her two children was gang-raped on the motorway within Gujjarpura police’s jurisdiction on Tuesday night.
CCPO Umar Sheikh who led the investigation said that a woman should have chosen for an alternative and safe route.
Furthermore, he further said: “I am surprised that a mother of three, a lone driver after leaving Defence should have taken the straight route from GT Road, a generally well-populated area.”
Shameful!!! Newly appointed CCPO lahore blames rape victim for being raped bcz she was travelling alone on motorway . How can you expect this man to arrest the culprits?

Despite fulfilling his responsibilities he blamed the victim who was not alone but with her children. Victim-blaming is most common in Pakistan as illiterate people always blame the victim for what happened to them.
Federal Minister of Human rights of Pakistan, Shireen Mazari has slammed CCPO Lahore Umar Sheikh for blaming the victim.
She wrote: “For an officer to effectively blame a woman for being gang-raped by saying she should have taken the GT Road or question as to why she went out in the night with her children is unacceptable & have taken up this issue. Nothing can ever rationalize the crime of rape.”
For an officer to effectively blame a woman for being gang raped by saying she should have taken the GT Road or question as to why she went out in the night with her children is unacceptable & have taken up this issue. Nothing can ever rationalise the crime of rape. That’s it.

If 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 is how the officers responsible for the safety of citizens respond to a heinous crime, it’s no wonder rapists and criminals walk the streets with impunity. https://t.co/5DfSfSg3Ib

It doesn’t matter what the victim was wearing or why the victim was alone. The only thing which matters is that we should hang those culprits publicly to set an example. Nothing can rationalize the crime of rape.
