23-years old LAPD female police officer has shot and killed a man who approached her with a knife in his hand. The female cop was sued by the 14-years old daughter of a man she killed. The heartbroken daughter said that the shooting was unjustified.
Police officer Toni McBride opened fire when a 38-year old man Daniel Hernandez continued walking toward her with a box cutter in his hand. She asked her to drop the box cutter but he refused to listen to her instructions.
Toni McBride fired four times before he collapsed. She fired two more times because he was still holding the weapon.
Victim Hernandez’s family said police use of force is something black and Latino people were experiencing for decades.
Toni McBride, an officer in LAPD’s Newton Division has appeared in magazines and practices at gun ranges alongside Hollywood stars including Keanu Reeves.
Hernandez’s attorney said: “Do we want police officers to be gunslingers, or to live up to the LAPD motto, “to protect and to serve?”
Others have defended the police officer that the shooting is justified because she was facing life threats.
