Higher education commission of Pakistan has addressed the students’ concerns regarding online classes and exams. HEC announced Saturday that there is no truth behind the rumors of promoting students without examination.
The higher education commission is the independent, autonomous, and constitutionally established institution. Earlier, HEC declared that the universities will announce their policies on examination and admissions within one week.
Since the coronavirus pandemic hit Pakistan three months ago, among many other sectors education sector also had to face many challenges. Different universities started online classes during this difficult time of the pandemic.
Students living in cities and having fast internet connections were able to utilize this opportunity to continue to study from home. But the problems of students living in small areas increased as they have slow internet connections. Students all over the country have been raising their voices through social media.
Recently, an image circulating on the internet revealed that HEC has canceled the online classes and decided to promote students without examination.
But the higher education commission of Pakistan took to Twitter and disclosed that the news is fake and the promotion of students without exams is out of the question.

Chairman HEC Tariq Banuri earlier stated that ‘the purpose of the exams is to reward students for actions that will make them successful in their future lives. Examination and assessments are an integral part of the teaching process.’
He added: “Attempts to eliminate exams will have severe repercussions for educational quality and student achievement. Only fake degree mills issue degrees and certificates without verification.”
