Twitter, Inc (TWTR) Flags Donald Trump Tweet For Violating Platform’s Rules

Twitter, Inc (NYSE: TWTR) has labeled a tweet of President Donald Trump as having  ‘glorified violence’ and added a warning label to one of his tweets about the protest and violence in Minneapolis. This is the first time such action has been taken against the President of a Country.

Twitter Inc generally took necessary steps against the tweets that violate the rules and policies of the social media giant. TWTR clearly warned the users it will take action against inappropriate tweets. TWTR stated: “User may not threaten violence against an individual or a group of people.”

President Donald Trump tweeted about the riot of Minneapolis. He wrote: “These thugs are dishonoring the memory of George Floyd, and I won’t let that happen. I just spoke to Governor Tim Walz and told him that the Military is with him all the way. Any difficulty and we will assume control but, when the looting starts, the shooting starts.”

People condemned the phrase ‘when the looting starts, the shooting starts’ and Twitter labeled the tweet as having ‘glorified violence’. His tweet came in response to the protest for Blackman George Floyd whose video went viral before he died.

Twitter Inc hide his tweets with notice says ‘This Tweet violated the Twitter Rules about glorifying violence. However, Twitter has determined that it may be in the public’s interest in the Tweet to remain accessible.”

Twitter stated it prohibits the glorification of violence which urged other people to take part in similar acts of violence. Moreover, glorifying violent events when the people were targeted based on their race, gender, ethnicity, etc could lead to further violence.

Shares of Twitter Inc dropped 4.45% and down -1.47 at $31.60 during the last trading session of Thursday. It has a total market capitalization of 24.58 billion. TWTR has a day low and day high range of 31.32-32.68, respectively. It has reported a decrease of -31.09% of 52 weeks high and moved up 58.00% in a 52-week low range.

Users are able to view the post if they click past the notice. Twitter stated ‘it may be in public’s interest for the tweet to remain accessible. Public interest is the exception on Twitter which allows people to view the Tweets that would otherwise be taken down.

The same thing happened with President Donald Trump’s tweet as Twitter allow the public to view the tweet. Twitter stated people will be able to retweet with the comments, but will not be able to like Like, reply or retweet.

President Donald Trump has signed the executive orders that are addressing the ‘censorship’ by Twitter and other social media companies. He was unsettled over the decision of Twitter to attach fact-check type labels to two of his misleading posts about mail-in voting ballots.
