D’neil Schmall, an ICU nurse talked about the devastating reality of her job during this coronavirus pandemic. She broke down in tears while describing her grief at witnessing so many of her patients die.
D’neil recently moved to New York on March 30th to fight the novel coronavirus. She has been working at a temporary Central Park Hospital with a team that is engaged in treating the COVID-19 patients.
In a heart-wrenching video, she burst into tears and said: “I’m tired of walking into rooms, and your patients are dead. You just walk into a room, and there’s a dead body there. I’m tired of calling families and telling them that news.”
She also disclosed how devastating her job is. She also paid tribute to her fellow nurses who died from coronavirus.
D’neil urged people to understand them and stay safe. She said that people are thinking that doctors and nurses are immune to diseases but this job is so stressful.
D’neil said: “I cried the whole way home, I mean the driver was like, Ma’am are you okay? I don’t think people understand how stressful this job is. I was trained for anything in the world but this is so stressful.”
35-year-old ER ICU nurse said: “If you have ever felt any time would be appropriate to have compassion for each other, right now is the time when we should all have compassion for each other, and try to at least acknowledge what the other person is going through. I just have so much sadness.”
She said she has no courage to share all this with the family because she doesn’t want to worry them. D’neil asked the hospitals to focus on the mental health of their employees and to motivate them about their work.
Everyone is trying hard but if the hospital staff is not feeling well then who is going to take care of your patients. ICU nurse said that she wants people to understand the reality of their stressful job.
