International Women’s Day to be marked today

International women’s day to be celebrated today(8th March)across the globe. It is a global day honoring the social, economic, cultural and political accomplishments of women.

The theme of women’s day is ‘I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights’ this year. The United Nation first celebrated women’s day during international women’s year in 1975.

The United Nations announced the 8th march as an official women’s day in 1977. UN Women Executive Director Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka highlighted the issues regarding gender equality.

She said in a statement: “We don’t have an equal world at the moment and women are angry and concerned about the future. They are completely excitable for change. It’s an excitement that runs deep, and it has been brewing for years.”

United Nations Women also celebrated this day and gave a message of equality to the world. UN women tweeted: “Let’s support each other, believe in each other, encourage each other to never give up, and lift each other up.”

Google also celebrated the International Women’s day and paid honor to women through their animated video. The multilayered 3D animated video shows the powerful and strong women of the world.
