Greta Thunberg, a 17 years old Swedish climate activist attended a meeting at European Union headquarters today. In the meeting, a new climate law was disclosed, which is already denied by Greta.
She and her other fellow activists are totally unimpressed with the newly declared legislation. According to the law, there will be 27 members pledge to control greenhouse gas emission by 2050.
Greta said that we are not in need of just making laws for 2030 or 2050, we need to be vigilant about every coming day. While speaking to the MEP committee, she further said: “The European Union must stop pretending that you can be a climate leader and still go on building and subsidizing new fossil fuel infrastructure.”
Greta and 33 other youth climate activists have rebuked the EU’s climate plans in an open letter.
The letter said: “Net zero emissions by 2050 for the EU equals surrender. It means giving up. We don’t just need goals for just 2030 or 2050. We, above all, need them for 2020 and every following month and year to come.”
Greta has always seen working and speaking about climate change and been shaking the leaders to keep an eye on the matter.
But, according to Green lawmaker Michael Bloss, she’s now taking a step back from the climate change targets for 2030.
