The first clinical trial of a novel coronavirus vaccine on a human is set to start today (Monday), according to the US authorities. The first human participant will receive the dose of the vaccine today.
This testing is taking place at Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute in Seattle. National Institute of Health is funding this testing.
It was reported that the individual will not actually be infected with the coronavirus. The testing will be carried out to check the possible side effects.
It will take a year to 18 months to verify the effect of the vaccine. A trial will launch with 45 young, healthy volunteers with different doses of shots co-developed by NIH and Moderna Inc.
There are no chances that the volunteers could get infected because the individual is not infected with the virus itself.
Dozens of research groups around the world are rushing to create a vaccine as COVID-19 cases continue to grow.
