An average of 10 women killed in Mexico every day. But after the murder of 25-year old Ingrid Escamilla, protestors demand action from the Mexican government.
Ms. Escamilla was found dead by officers at an apartment just north of the city center last weekend. Her body skinned and part of her corpse flushed down a sewer.
Femicide, a gender-based killing increased in Mexico. More than 700 cases are currently being investigated. Activists say the number of women killed because of their gender is much higher.
Images of her corpse were leaked and published on the local newspaper front page. It sparked more anger in the public.
Her boyfriend was arrested. He not only killed her but also destroyed her corpse to the point that it was hard to recognize.
The protestors, most of the women painted the words “femicide state” in red on Mexico’s presidential palace.
Last year 3,825 women were murdered, an increase of 7% from 2018.
