Stephanie Simpson, a British backpacker who went missing on Monday was found dead in New Zealand. Her body swept away in a creek.
Police say they found her body in a canyon at the bottom of Pyke Creek. An area of Mount Aspiring National Park close to where she was last seen.
She was declared missing after she failed to return home from a weekend journey. Her remains were found Friday afternoon when rescuers found her packs and boots near the river.
Stephanie was last seen on Saturday when hikers saw her walking along a popular road Brewster’s track. Brewster track leads up Mt Brewster from Fantail falls.
New Zealand police have confirmed that her body was found near the fantail falls area of Mount Aspiring national park. She told her friend her body was planning on hiking ton Brewster’s hut before heading to the blue pools.
Police Seargent Kirkwood asked people to carry a locator beacon or a device when they go hiking. These devices allow their movements to be tracked, and to keep it within reach at all times.
He added: “The search was extremely challenging at times, especially in consideration of the area, and the work of all involved is to be commended.”
