American tennis player Sofia Kenin has reached the final of the Australian Open by defeating the no.1 Ashleigh Barty on Thursday.
The 21-year-old saved points in both sets to beat the world No. 1, 7-6 (6), 7-5 in one hour, 45 minutes. “This really wasn’t an easy one,” Kenin said.
Kenin also defeated the crowd favorite Coco Gauff in the fourth round. The victory of Kenin in the final round ended the title of Ash as the first Australian woman to win in Melbourne since Chris O’Neil in 1978.
Sofia adored Russian tennis player Maria Sharapova. Kenin will face either Simona Halep or Garbine Muguruza in Saturday’s final. Both are two-time grand slam winners, tilting at the French Open and Wimbledon.
