Ex-Host of Radio 4 Today, Sarah Montague, has received £1million from BBC after an internal investigation into equal pay.
53-year old British Journalist filed the complaint after she discovered that her £133,000 salary less in comparison to the £600,000 to £649,000 John Humphry’s salary. They both hosted the show together for 18 years but she felt that he received five times more than her.
Ms. Montague didn’t do it for money. She filed a complaint because she believed that it is important that if men and women do the same job they both received equal pays.
In 2018, Ms. Montague said: “I had long suspected that I was paid much less than my colleagues. But until the pay disclosures, I had no idea of the scale of that difference. Some years ago I was even assured by a manager that I was not the lowest paid on the program.”
This comes after Newswatch host Sameera Ahmed won a gender discrimination case for back pay.
She previously said she was ‘incandescent with rage’ after realizing the difference of pay.
