Meghan Markle for the first time spotted leaving her $14 million Vancouver Island home after the news of ‘Megxit’. Duchess of Sussex visits a Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre in Canada’s poorest neighborhood.
Meghan seems happy and relaxed as she laughed with her security team before boarding a seaplane for the mainland.
She made a surprise visit to the Downtown Eastside Women’s Center in Vancouver to ‘offer support’ and to ‘boost the staff’s spirits’.
Shelter’s staff member said that they have no idea about the visit of Duchess of Sussex they only came to know when she arrived. She discussed issues affecting women in the community.
The shelter provides counseling, hot meals, and basic needs for women and children in need.
“She asked what the women would need in terms of support. It was a nice meeting,” the staff member said.
The women’s shelter is situated in one of the poorest neighborhoods in Canada on Vancouver’s Eastside. It is the epicenter of the country’s drug overdose crisis that has claimed more than 13,000 lives since January 2016.
