American actress Awkwafina attended the 77th annual global award at The Beverley Hilton hotel on 5th January 2020 in Beverly Hills, California.

She made the history by winning the lead actress award in the film category. She is the first woman of Asian descent who win this Golden Globe award.

Awkwafina is awarded this Golden Globe award for her outstanding performance in LuLu Wang film ‘The Farewell’.

In the film ‘The Farewell’ Awkwafina plays the role of Billi, a New Yorker who has to travel to China to see her grandmother. Her grandmother who is dying because she has lung disease.

Awkwafina expressed her pleasure when she received the award. She said: “This is great. Thank you. If anything, if I fall upon hard times, I can sell this, so that’s good.”

Actress dedicated her award to her father, her grandmother and her mother Tia who died when she was 4 years old. The actress said that she always wished that her mother was watching her from somewhere.

Awkwafina got the honor over Ana de Armas in “Knives Out,” Cate Blanchett in “Where’d You Go, Bernadette,” Beanie Feldstein in “Booksmart” and Emma Thompson in “Late Night.”
