An Italian cruise ship with 7,000 people has been quarantined in the port city of Civitavecchia, near Rome. Passengers were stuck on the ship after a woman came down with symptoms that raised concerns about a possible case of coronavirus.
A 54-year old Chinese woman and her husband were placed in confinement and have been tested for the coronavirus. While other passengers were not allowed to leave the ship.
On Wednesday night woman alerts ship medics that she is having fever and has respiratory problems. The woman’s husband has not shown any symptoms of virus but he was placed in isolated room with his wife.
On January 25 couple was departed Hong Kong on a flight to Milan. They joined the cruise ship when the arrived in Savona on the same day.
The next day on January 26 ship arrived in Marseilles and on 27 it arrived in Barcelona. Ship arrived in Palm on January 28. When the ship arrived in Civitavecchia it is quarantined near Rome.
Test results are due this afternoon and passengers were not allowed to leave until then. The ship is carrying 6000 passengers and 1000 crew members. A total of 7,000 passengers are being held off the coast.
