A 4-year old Freya Thorpe accidentally hanged herself. Her pink unicorn cycle helmet entangled in a tree she was climbing. A trial into her death is being held at Oxford Coroners Court today.
Freya was playing near her home when the head got caught on tree branch. A passer-by found her and called emergency services but she died in hospital two days later.
Today the hearing of the Freya case was held. The statement of seven police officers was due before the hearing. The court was full of Freya family members.
The cause of death was hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy due to accidental hanging, according to the medical report.
Freya’s mother, Elise, had given birth to twins just weeks before her daughter died.
Many people paid a tribute to her and said: “Freya was such a beautiful little lady who brightened up everyone’s day. She will be forever in our hearts.”
Another said: “My thoughts are with the family and friends at such a sad sad time. Dear little Freya went to nursery and school with my grandchildren.”
