American actress Alia Shawkat recently revealed her gender identity in a very open interview which sent the internet into a frenzy and created a lot of buzz.
In an interview Shawkat, star of “Arrested Development” told reporters that she is, in fact, bisexual and has identified her self that way since the past 2 years before filming and co-writing a queer-themed movie in 2017.
Alia recollected that even as a child she was very boyish and when asked by her mother whether she had an interest in boys or girls, she replied that she did not know.
After many years Alia calls herself bisexual and has embraced both of her feminine and masculine sides which has helped her to grow not only as an actor but also as a person.
For her experimental comedy “Duck Butter” Alia admired the fact that it had two women in leading roles despite it originally being about a man and a woman.
Being a part of the changing political scene, as an LGBTQ+ member Shawkat believes it is the right time to speak up and advocate for her rights to ensure equality and freedom to be who you are.
