Women entrepreneurs in software product to be awarded by MEITY

NEW DELHI: In an effort to find women entrepreneurs who have amassed remarkable progress in the field of software products, the ministry of electronics and IT has organized these awards. Most Notably, the woman founded and run companies that work in the area of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) and Virtual Reality (VR).

A New Age company working to create great impact in agriculture, healthcare, water management and a start-up producing prodigious results in the social sector will also be given these awards.

Sixth Economic Census released by the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation states that women constitute only around 14% of the total entrepreneurship in the country this means that there are only 8.05 million women out of the total 58.29 million entrepreneurs.

“The idea is to award women who have built great software products and through them inspire more women to come forward and join the entrepreneurship journey,” said a government official aware of the project.

Recently a draft policy for software products has been issued by the government to enhance the software product space in the country. For this reason, MEITY has partnered with IT Industry organization Nasscom for the awards and until now it has amassed close to 650 nominations.
