Saudi Arabia is considering the possibility that women should be allowed to perform hajj without a mahram.
Researches are being conducted by the Ministry of Hajj and umrah to issue visit visas for the purpose of Umrah and tourism and it is expected that this process would pave the way for women to be allowed to come without a male guardian
Currently in Saudi Arabia in order for women to perform Hajj or Umrah, they are currently required to travel with a mahram however women who are able to above the age of 45 can travel without a male guardian only if they are in a tour group.
Women who are traveling in a group or without a mahram should submit a letter of no objection from their mahram so that their travel for hajj or umrah can be authorized.
This development took place after a number of other reforms were made into the Hajj and umrah sector.
Umrah firms raised their concerns recently that if the authorities do not step in they’ll lose out and about 200 companies in the market
