Professional tennis player Naomi Osaka chose Japan nationality over US nationality for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic. Two-time grand slam champion Osaka has a Japanese mother & her father is Haitian. Naomi was born in japan but she raised in the US.
Japanese law state that an individual having dual nationality must choose one before anyone turn 22 years old. Naomi’s birthday is on 16 October and she chose her Japanese nationality before her birthday.
Naomi in a talk with Japanese journalist NHK said: “It will give her good feelings for representing her own state Japan in Olympic. She said that she will play more attentively from now onward for the pride of my state. “
Recently, at the final of China Open, she beat world no-1 Ashleigh Barty. Osaka made her Fed Cup debut for the state in 2017. Last year Osaka become the first Japanese female to win Championship against Serena Williams at the US Open.
