Maria Butina, Russian spy in US reached home after being in Prison for 15 months

A 29 years old Russian citizen, Maria Butina who graduated from American University in Washington has been released from prison after 15 months. She was arrested on July 15, 2018, for her involvement in different political groups, national Rifle association and promoting Russian Interests in the US. She landed her hometown Moscow after she was deported and released from prison.

In a talk with Russian TV, she showed her gratitude toward Russia for support while she was in Custody Of the US. She was accused of being a Russian spy in the US and she was charged as a Russian government agent. Her Lawyer said she is not a spy, she was looking forward to creating better relations between the two nations.

But According to the judge who sentenced her said she was working on behalf of Russain Official that was both sophisticated and dangerous. She also said ” there was no simple misunderstanding by an overeager foreign student ”

On the other hand, Butina in different interviews she said she has no bad intentions towards the US.

“I pleaded guilty to non-registration as a foreign agent. I’m a person who did not do anything illegal, did not take any money, there were no victims, there wasn’t even a person to conspire with,” According to my documents, I did not register before hosting friendship dinners with an American citizen, non-registration is the only crime in my documents, Butina told Russian state news agency RIA Novosti. .”
