Pakistani journalist and filmmaker Shermeen Obaid Chinoy attended the ceremony of ‘Academy’s Women initiative’ Incheon. The event was organized by the Academy of Motion Pictures Art and Sciences in New York.
While delivering a speech to 175 members in the ceremony, Shermeen Obaid speaks about her impact as a filmmaker. She said that film has the ability to alter the way women see themselves.
Along with shermeen other women of film industry attended the event including the CEO of AMPAS different actresses, producer, etc.
3 bahadur directors talked about her ‘Dekh Magar Pyar Sa ‘mobile cinema project. Shermeen started this initiative in 2017. For this film, she traveled across 300 different locations to create an awareness in the women of small villages. She encourages them to speak up about their rights. The resolution of her film is to educate women.
She also discussed her roles as a reporter. She started this career at the age of 14. She made her first documentary film at the age of 21. She also talked about how she works as a campaigner and how her engagement makes an impact on the Pakistani bill. She said that when she wins the 2nd Oscar award for ‘The girl in the river’ it helps her affect the state. After winning Oscar, she passes laws which prevent the suspect of honor killing to get a pardon.
Shermeen also talked about 3 Bahadur that how can these types of animation make an impact on children. About her recent cartoon, she said that this film gives advice to a young girl to vision big and it also advises parents to finance those visions.
