American actress Angelina Jolie pen down a heartwarming and emotionally moving essay. She talks about the pain she felt after her mother Marcheline Bertrand lost her life to her long and courageous fight against breast cancer.
Jolie writes that not only her mother but her grandmother too was diagnosed with breast cancer and died after a hard-fought battle against the disease at the age of 40 while her mother passed away at the age of 50. Not to go through the same struggle and suffering she took a number of health precautions, the biggest being a double mastectomy.
When doctors discovered that there is an increased likely hood that due to her genetic makeup Jolie would not only have breast but ovarian cancer too, the filmmaker underwent surgery to have her fallopian tube and ovaries surgically removed.
In an effort to ward off her genetic susceptibility to cancer she had to endure multiple medical procedures and surgeries. Before this, she has never talked about her struggles regarding her health.
In her letter, the Academy Award winner recalls a time when her mother was severely ill and had turned purple because of the harsh chemo radiations, looking at her she got very worried and hurriedly started looking for a nurse so she could provide immediate care to her ailing mother.
She further stated that she wishes for a long and healthy life so that she can see her kids grow, prosper and one day have kids of their own whom she can chat and play with. This wish of hers sheds light on the fact that both her mother and grandmother did not get to live very long lives but she intends to be there for her kids every step of the way.
The essay has come under the spotlight after Jolie openly mentioned how sad and hurt she was after her divorce from Brad Pitt and her coping to be a single mom and trying to do everything for her children on her own. She said that she felt lost and was unhappy but had slowly started to tread on the path that would help her to heal and find joy again.
