Alexandria Ocasio- Cortez a Democrat and youngest member of the House of Representatives has shown her support for Bernie Sander in a rally in Queensbridge Park, New York. Ocasio calls him ‘Tio Bernie’ which means ‘uncle’ in Spanish.
Ocasio-Cortez said in an emotional speech: “When it was time for me to graduate college with student debt & I was a waitress, Bernie was one of the only ones that said no person should be graduating with life-crushing debt.”
She shared a news on her twitter and said: ” Today I am endorsing senator Bernie for president. In the end, we must come together to defeat Donald Trump. We should do so knowing he is a symptom of a larger problem and our greatest hope is a multiracial, working-class movement in the US. “
After suffering a heart attack earlier this month Bernie Sanders announced he is back and politically active. The Presidential candidate said that he is well and absolutely ready to step back into the political scene attempting to eliminate doubts, if any, regarding his health among his supporters and the general public.
Whether the Democrat will endorse Bernie Sander or Joe Bidden was very much a hot topic and under debate for several months but through this rally Ocasio-Cortez has made it quite clear whom she will endorse.
As to why she chose Sanders, Ocasio-Cortez commented that is not about the candidate is male or female but about working and fighting for feminist values in the movement and that she and Sanders have been speaking and raising their voices for since long, both believing that they can make the change that needs to happen and start taking making it roots now than ever before.
