An Iranian woman returned home after 27 months verdict. She was detained in the US for violating sanctions against Tehran. A Judge in Minneapolis sentenced Negar Ghodkani to 27 months in prison. The judge determined her penalty time she had spent in custody in Australia. Her punishment was enough in the US.
Her lawyer Robert Richman said that she is now at her home in Iran with her family after receiving her penalty.
Negar is a local resident of Australia was taken in custody in Adelaide in 2017 after a US prosecutor accused her that she beseech US telecommunication technology by disguise herself as a worker of Malaysian corporation.
Moreover, the US prosecuting attorney said that she was transporting technology to Iranian public broadcasting firm Fanamoj. She admitted that she illegally transport the technology to Iranian corporations in breach of sanctions.
She was expecting at the time of detention and she gave birth while in Australian custody. Her son was sent to his father in Iran.
In April, Iranian foreign minister Muhammad Javad Zarif proposed a prisoner swap. He recommended swapping of Ghodskani for Nazanin who was in jail in Tehran. She is a British-Iranian dual citizen who has been detained in Iran since April 3, 2016.
