The NESTio in Karachi, women led startup

While Startup Weekend isn’t another idea and has been occurring all around the globe, including Pakistan, since 2007. But it has led women throughout the globe to get more equipped with business skills. The Women release of Startup Weekend was facilitated without precedent for Pakistan. The occasion commenced on Friday at 5:30 PM, at The NESTio in Karachi with participation of 90 members, with majority of 90% female hold up.

Many of the participants registered themselves for this startup. A figure of 52 ideas was pitched on the first day, out of which 17 were chosen by a group of people who voted for final pitching. The competition was held after a month-long campaign titled “working wonders” which aimed to encourage all existing and aspiring female entrepreneurs. These ideas were then shaped throughout the end of the week into models and plans of action.

An approach that transformed their fantasy thoughts into running organizations. In excess of 250 applications were gotten for the hackathon support out of which 100 were shortlisted to go to the occasion. These entrepreneurs with different communities met together around the world.

In a 3 day workshop, the members likewise had a chance to get advice from mentors who were available throughout to guide and encourage these aspiring entrepreneurs. Members were likewise given short workshops to enable them to form their thoughts into business. So that they could excel in it.

A speaker session slot was structured on Day 2 in which successful women from different fields took the stage and shared details of their own journey with participants.Sidra Iqbal was welcome to lead a workshop on Communication and Pitching while another workshop was directed on Prototyping.

The speaker line-up included Hiba Masood, essayist, teacher, and storyteller; Khizra Munir, CEO Co Pakistan; Zarmina Faisal, Yoga Instructor and Nutrition and Lifestyle Coach; Maheen Adamjee, Co-Founder Dot and Line; and Uzma AlKarim, Senior Anchor and Producer Geo TV. To additionally encourage the youthful business visionaries, two little workshops were likewise included.

The following teams were selected as winners by the five esteemed judges:

  • Winner:

 A decision support system to reduce doctor patient interaction -DocTech

  • First Runner-up:  An app to educate and connect restaurants with recyclers-Kachra Konnect
  • Second Runner-up:  a one-stop bucket list app allowing people to chase their dreams- Jee Lo
  • Special Mention: – An app that allows users to play any game with the power of their mind- Virtual Gaming

The winning teams were selected by a panel of judges including
